Performance characteristics of EPDM rubber

Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) is an important composite material in the rubber industry. It is composed of ethylene, propylene, and a small amount of non conjugated diene, with a unique chemical structure and excellent physical properties.
Main characteristics of EPDM rubber
1. Aging resistance
The main chain of EPDM rubber is composed of chemically stable saturated hydrocarbons, with only unsaturated double bonds in the side chains, exhibiting excellent oxidation resistance, ozone resistance, and corrosion resistance. Therefore, EPDM rubber products can maintain good characteristic stability in harsh environments and are widely used in outdoor construction, automotive parts and other fields.
2. Heat resistance
Due to its molecular stability, EPDM rubber is not easily thermally degraded at high temperatures and can work for a long time at high temperatures. For example, in the wire and cable industry, peroxide crosslinked EPDM rubber has high temperature resistance and is suitable for insulation layer materials in high-temperature environments.
3. Corrosion resistance
EPDM rubber has good resistance to various polar chemicals such as alcohols, acids, and bases, but its stability to lipids and aromatic solvents is poor. This characteristic has led to the widespread use of EPDM rubber in chemical equipment, pipelines, and other fields.
4. Low density and high additive properties
EPDM rubber has a low density and can absorb a large amount of fillers and oil, which helps to reduce product costs. The physical and mechanical properties of high additive EPDM rubber products are not significantly reduced, and they have significant economic advantages in many applications.
5. Insulation
EPDM rubber has excellent insulation performance and corona resistance, and its electrical performance is superior to or close to other plastic materials, making it suitable for places with high electrical performance requirements.
